Allison (Anne Hathaway) and Emily (Bijou Phillips) are best friends in the wealthy Pacific Palisades where their group of friends imitate the hip-hop "gangsta" lifestyle. A drug buying trip to downtown Los Angeles with Allison's boyfriend Toby (Mike Vogel) introduces the girls to Hector (Freddy Rodriguez), a real life East LA gang banger. Adventurous Allison ditches her friends and takes Hector up on his invitation to come party with the gang. Soon the girls are partying with the "gangstas" in hotel rooms, and East LA apartments on a regular basis and sparks are flying between Allison and Hector. The girls are invited to joing the gang but the gang-bang initiation leads to acquations of rape by Emily and a showdown between the Palisades boys out to avenge their honor and the East LA gang members wrongly accused of a crime.
