In Lake Helena, on December 20, 1968, a very strange murder occurred. Two teenagers, on a date near the lake were brutally murdered. The agent assigned to the case was Sergeant Matt Parish, and he starts to obsess over the case, and begins to focus more on the murder than on his wife and kids. Another murder occurs, followed by letters to the newspapers. The letters have a riddle, which promise more murders. The third murder is followed by more letters, and a greater obsession by the detective. The story continues, following the obstacs that the detective has, needing to balance the case and his family.
